GOOD THING

Nobody says a word
Nobody moves a finger
Nobody says it's wrong
Nobody wonders why
Everyone's got a car
Everyone goes on holiday
There's no need to wonder why
Looks like everything's alright

It's a good thing you've got friends because being alone is not easy
It's a good thing you've got food when you're hungry and tired
It's a good thing you've got love because living without love is empty
I wouldn't want to live without you

It's a good thing you've got time even though it's running faster than you
It's a good thing you've got life, it's a good thing you smile
It's a good thing you've got more than someone with nothing to show for
All the days and all the nights
And stories by the firelight
Being young and getting old

I wrote this after walking in Brussels one day and seeing a homeless guy sitting on a street bench, going through empty beer cans to see what was left to drink. I think he found a cigarette end in one, threw it on the ground, and then proceeded to drink from the can. Not a pleasant sight and I, like everyone else, just walked by and carried on with our day. Everyone has their story.
